Gas engineer in Parkhead

Five roads meet at Parkhead Cross, and around them sits one of the most varied mixes of housing in the East End. There are sandstone tenements from before the First World War, a 1930s scheme at Barrowfield, and newer housing association flats filling the gaps that demolition left behind, all within walking distance of Celtic Park and the shopping centre on the old Beardmore forge site. For a gas engineer, that means no two Parkhead jobs look quite the same.

Crombie Gas is David Crombie's family business, run from Uddingston. David has spent more than 27 years in gas and heating, including 20 at British Gas, before going self-employed so he could look after customers properly himself. We still get most of our work from people who have used us before and from their recommendations.

As a Worcester Bosch accredited installer in Parkhead and across the East End, we can offer extended manufacturer guarantees on eligible Worcester boilers, and we also service and repair Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera. Our approach is simple: honest advice, no sales pitch, and a clear price for parts and labour before we start. Our Gas Safe registration number is 540372, and we are open seven days, 8am to 8pm.

Areas of Parkhead we cover

Our Parkhead work spreads out from the Cross in every direction: west along the Gallowgate towards Camlachie, north up Duke Street, down Springfield Road past Celtic Park, and east along Westmuir Street. We cover the Helenvale streets beside the library, the Barrowfield scheme to the west, and the homes between the Forge and London Road. Off-peak, Parkhead is 15 to 20 minutes from Uddingston, coming in by London Road or Tollcross Road.

Old tenements beside new builds

The older tenements around Parkhead Cross and Westmuir Street mostly date from before 1919, and many are now shared between housing associations and private owners. In those flats the boiler often sits in a kitchen cupboard with its flue taken out through thick sandstone. Where a block has been refurbished, the flue positions were usually planned at that stage, and they are often worth keeping when the boiler is replaced.

Then there are the newer flats and houses built over the past few decades. These usually had condensing boilers from day one, and many of those boilers are now well into their second decade, with tired pumps, fans and valves, and condensate pipes that can freeze in a hard frost if they run outside. In the 1930s Barrowfield homes we still come across older open-vented systems that are ready for an upgrade.

Brilliant service.

Our boiler broke down. Phoned David in the morning and boiler repaired in afternoon. Priced the job for parts and labour before starting. Good price. The next week we had no hot water. A different problem than before. Again David came out and told us what was wrong. Priced the part and labour and gave us a date for the job. Everything sorted!

Questions

Gas engineer in Parkhead: your questions

I rent from a housing association. Can you fix my boiler?

If you rent from a housing association, gas repairs and safety checks are normally arranged by your landlord, so contact them first. If you own your flat, even in a block where most homes belong to an association, your boiler is your responsibility and we are happy to help. Plenty of Parkhead tenements have that mix of owners and tenants.

My boiler is in a kitchen cupboard. Can it move when it is replaced?

It can, but moving a boiler means a new flue route, new gas pipework and a new condensate drain, which all add to the cost. In many Parkhead flats, keeping it in the same place is the sensible choice. David will price both options side by side so you can decide with the full picture in front of you.

My boiler keeps losing pressure. What causes that?

The usual suspects are a small leak somewhere on the system, a pressure relief valve that is letting by, or an expansion vessel that has lost its charge. Topping it up keeps you going for a while, but the cause needs finding. David will track it down, explain what is wrong and price the repair before doing any work.

Is Parkhead within your area?

Very much so. We are based in Uddingston, and Parkhead is 15 to 20 minutes away off-peak, straight in along London Road or Tollcross Road. We also work in neighbouring Dennistoun, Shettleston and Tollcross. Being open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, makes it easier to find a time that suits you, evenings and weekends included.
