The Murray and Calderwood were among the first neighbourhoods built after the town was designated, with Calderwood started in the early 1950s and now the largest residential area in the town. Westwood and the Mains followed, and Greenhills was built mainly from the early 1970s to the early 1980s as the town took more Glasgow overspill. Terraced houses, cottage flats and low-rise blocks dominate, and many are now privately owned and on their second or third boiler.
Because each neighbourhood was built from a limited set of house types, the boiler position, flue route and pipe layout are often similar from one house to the next. That helps when planning a replacement, but it also means the same weak spots repeat: older open-vented systems with loft tanks, original pipework, and radiators that were never balanced after a combi conversion. Stewartfield, Lindsayfield and Jackton are lower-density private estates with mostly modern condensing boilers that need yearly servicing to protect their warranties.

Can my old new-town heating system be converted to a combi?
In most cases, yes. Many older East Kilbride houses still have a cold water tank in the loft and a cylinder in the airing cupboard. Removing them and fitting a combi frees up space, but the pipework and mains water flow need checking first. David will assess both and explain whether a combi or a system boiler suits the house better.

We have just bought a former council house. What should we check first?
Book a boiler service and safety check early on. You may not know when the boiler was last serviced, how old it is or how well the system has been looked after. David will check it is working safely, tell you honestly how much life it has left, and flag anything worth planning for, such as a missing carbon monoxide alarm in the boiler room.
Does a new-build boiler in Jackton need servicing in its first year?
Yes. Most manufacturers ask for a service within twelve months of installation and every year after that for the warranty to stay valid, and missing one can void it. We service Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers and send a yearly reminder so the date does not pass unnoticed.
