Gas engineer in Baillieston

Baillieston sits just the other side of the M73 from our base in Uddingston, so it is one of the places we know best and visit most often. Crombie Gas is a family-run business, and the person you speak to on the phone and the engineer who turns up are the same: David Crombie, who has spent more than 27 years in gas and heating, 20 of them with British Gas.

David left British Gas to work for himself because he wanted to give people a more personal service than a big national firm can manage. That still shapes how we work in G69. Most of our jobs come from customers we have looked after before, or from someone recommending us to a neighbour, and we would rather keep it that way than chase work with a hard sell.

So when your boiler plays up, the first thing David does is find out why, and whether it can be put right. If it can, he fixes it. If replacement genuinely makes more sense, he will tell you plainly and price the whole job, parts and labour, before any work starts. We are Gas Safe registered (540372) and a Worcester Bosch accredited installer serving Baillieston, and we also work on Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers. Lines are open 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.

Areas of Baillieston we cover

We cover the whole of the G69 side of the city boundary. That takes in the older village streets around Main Street and Church Street, the garden suburb at Garrowhill, Swinton up towards the M8, and the quieter roads of Barrachnie and Springhill towards Mount Vernon. Bargeddie, just over the line in North Lanarkshire, is on the same short run from Uddingston, so we treat it as part of the same patch. If you are unsure whether your street is covered, ask and we will tell you straight.

Local homes

Baillieston homes and the heating they tend to have

Housing here is a real mix, because Baillieston grew out of several small villages rather than one planned scheme. Near the old centre there are stone cottages and terraces from the village days. Garrowhill was laid out as a garden suburb in the 1930s, and private estates have filled in around it since, including Springhill, which was approved for housing in the 1980s.

Each era brings its own boiler questions. In older properties we often find pipework that has been extended and altered over the years, sludge in the system and radiators that heat unevenly, so a clean or a careful look at circulation can matter as much as the boiler. In the inter-war and post-war houses, many homes moved from a back boiler or a tank in the loft to a combi some years ago, and those first replacement boilers are now reaching the age where parts get harder to find. On newer estates it is usually a combi or system boiler that simply needs proper annual servicing to keep its warranty valid.

I found Crombie gas by chance when I needed my boiler replaced and it was a lucky find. David is the most reliable, efficient and skilled gas engineer I have experienced. I have recommend Crombie Gas to family and friends who have also been delighted. David operates with high integrity and only quotes for work that is required and gives competitively priced options.

Questions

Gas engineer in Baillieston: your questions

Do you cover Garrowhill and Swinton as well as Baillieston itself?

Yes. Garrowhill, Swinton, Barrachnie and Springhill are all part of our regular round, and so is Bargeddie on the North Lanarkshire side. From our base in Uddingston it is about ten minutes up the M73, so these are some of the closest areas we serve. Just give us your address when you get in touch and we will confirm.

Is it worth repairing an older boiler in a Garrowhill house?

Often it is. Age alone is not a reason to replace a boiler. David will look at what has failed, whether parts are still available and how the boiler has been performing. If a repair makes sense, he will do it. If the boiler is unsafe, parts are discontinued or repairs keep stacking up, he will explain why replacement might be better and price both options so you can decide.

Can you swap an old back boiler for a combi?

Yes, and it is a common job in older Baillieston homes. Taking out a back boiler usually means planning a new boiler position, flue route and gas supply, and sometimes changes to the pipework and the fireplace opening. David will survey the house first, explain the options and give you a full price before anything is agreed, so there are no surprises halfway through.

Can you come out at the weekend?

We are open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, which helps if you work during the week or the heating gives up on a Saturday. Call or message us and David will arrange a time that suits you. We will always be honest about when we can get to you, rather than promising a slot we cannot keep.
