Gas engineer in Cambuslang

Few places on our patch have as wide a range of homes as Cambuslang. Victorian villas, sandstone tenements along Main Street, post-war housing and the brand new streets at Newton Farm each come with their own heating quirks, and a boiler that suits one of them could be the wrong choice for the next. Getting that judgement right is most of the job, and it is where experience counts.

David Crombie has been fitting, servicing and repairing gas boilers for more than 27 years. He spent 20 of those with British Gas and then went self-employed so he could look after customers personally rather than as a job number on a list. Crombie Gas is family-run and based in Uddingston, roughly 10 to 15 minutes from Cambuslang.

We are Gas Safe registered (540372) and work seven days a week, 8am to 8pm. Before any work starts you get a clear price for parts and labour, and if a repair is the sensible answer, we will not talk you into a new boiler. That approach is why so much of our work comes back to us through repeat customers and recommendations.

Areas of Cambuslang we cover

We work all over Cambuslang: the flats around Main Street, Kirkhill and Eastfield, Whitlawburn on the high ground south of the centre, Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard, and Westburn, Flemington and Newton out towards the eastern edge of town, including the new streets at Newton Farm. If your address is in G72 or just over the boundary, we can almost always help.

Villas, tenements and Newton Farm new builds

Cambuslang's oldest substantial houses are the suburban villas built from the 1860s onwards, many with high ceilings, large rooms and extra bathrooms added over the years. Homes like that can outgrow a combi: running two showers at once needs stored hot water, so a system boiler with a cylinder is often the better fit. Sandstone tenements raise a different question, as the boiler is usually tucked into a kitchen cupboard or press, and the flue has to exit somewhere that meets current clearance rules.

At the other end of the scale, Newton Farm is a large Taylor Wimpey development built in phases, with the final phase under way in recent years. Those homes have efficient condensing boilers with warranties that usually require an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer. In between sit plenty of post-war and ex-council houses, many now on their second or third boiler.

Brilliant service.

Our boiler broke down. Phoned David in the morning and boiler repaired in afternoon. Priced the job for parts and labour before starting. Good price. The next week we had no hot water. A different problem than before. Again David came out and told us what was wrong. Priced the part and labour and gave us a date for the job. Everything sorted!

Questions

Gas engineer in Cambuslang: your questions

Will a combi boiler work in a big Victorian house?

Sometimes, but not always well. A combi heats water on demand, so two showers at once can be disappointing in a large house with more than one bathroom. A system boiler with a hot water cylinder stores water ready to use. David will look at your bathrooms, mains pressure and number of radiators before recommending one.

My Newton Farm boiler is still under warranty. Can you service it?

Yes. As long as the service is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and recorded properly, the warranty conditions are normally met. We service Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers, complete the boiler's service record, and send you a yearly reminder so the date does not slip.

Can a tenement flat boiler flue go out the back?

It depends on the building. A flue has to keep set distances from windows, doors, gutters and neighbouring flats, and in a tenement those spaces can be tight. Sometimes a vertical flue or a plume kit solves it. David will survey the flat, explain what is allowed and price the job fully before you commit.

How long does it take you to get to Cambuslang?

Usually 10 to 15 minutes from Uddingston off-peak, so Cambuslang is well inside our regular area. We cover all of G72, from Main Street and Kirkhill to Halfway, Hallside and Newton Farm, seven days a week between 8am and 8pm.
