Gas engineer in Castlemilk

Plenty of households in Castlemilk now own their homes outright, and when the heating stops the decision about who to call is theirs alone. We would like that call to be to Crombie Gas. We are a family business from Uddingston, 15 to 20 minutes away across Cathkin, and the person who turns up is David Crombie himself.

David has worked in gas and heating for more than 27 years. Twenty of those were with British Gas, and he went self-employed afterwards because he wanted to give people a more personal service than a big firm allows. Most of our customers come back year after year or arrive on someone else's recommendation.

We keep things honest. David explains what he has found in plain language, prices the parts and labour before starting, and looks for a repair before he ever talks about replacing a boiler. If a new one is the sensible answer, he will say so and show you why, with no pressure.

Crombie Gas is Gas Safe registered under number 540372. We work seven days, 8am to 8pm, on boiler installations, servicing, repairs and landlord gas safety certificates throughout G45.

Areas of Castlemilk we cover

We work right across Castlemilk, from the Dougrie Road area with its tower blocks to the streets off Machrie Road, Ardencraig Road and Barlia, and round by Glenwood. Several street names here, Dougrie and Machrie among them, come from places in the old County of Bute, and every one of those streets is on our patch. Castlemilk Drive and the roads near the shopping centre are covered too, as are the newer housing developments built during regeneration.

Local homes

From 1950s scheme to a rebuilt Castlemilk

Glasgow Corporation began building Castlemilk in 1953 as one of the city's four big peripheral schemes, with the first tenants moving in during 1954. The original estate was mostly low-rise flats in tenement style blocks, with tower blocks added in the 1960s. From the 1980s onwards local people pushed for change, community housing associations such as Cassiltoun took on homes, and large parts of the estate were demolished and rebuilt.

That history leaves a real mix today: refurbished post-war flats, high-rise homes, and modern houses from the regeneration years. Many of the newer homes were built with combi boilers in compact cupboards, and a good number of those boilers are now old enough to need regular attention. In the refurbished flats, the boiler may date from a block upgrade and benefit from a thorough service before a breakdown forces the issue.

I found Crombie gas by chance when I needed my boiler replaced and it was a lucky find. David is the most reliable, efficient and skilled gas engineer I have experienced. I have recommend Crombie Gas to family and friends who have also been delighted. David operates with high integrity and only quotes for work that is required and gives competitively priced options.

Questions

Gas engineer in Castlemilk: your questions

I rent from a housing association in Castlemilk. Can you fix my boiler?

If you rent from a housing association, the association is normally responsible for gas repairs and the yearly safety check, so contact them first. We work for homeowners and private landlords. If you have bought your home, or your landlord asks us to attend, we are glad to help.

I bought my Castlemilk flat years ago and the boiler came with it. Should I replace it?

Not necessarily. Age alone is not a reason to replace a boiler. David will service it, check how safely and efficiently it is running and tell you what condition it is really in. If parts are failing repeatedly or no longer available, he will explain the options and price a replacement.

How long does it take you to get to Castlemilk?

From our base in Uddingston it is usually 15 to 20 minutes off-peak, coming over by Cambuslang and Cathkin. That makes Castlemilk an easy part of our regular area rather than an out-of-the-way trip, and David is often working nearby in King's Park, Croftfoot or Rutherglen anyway.

My boiler is in a tower block flat. Is that a problem?

Not for us. Flats in high-rise blocks can have particular rules about flues, ventilation and where a boiler may sit, so David checks those before recommending any change. Servicing and repairs work the same way as anywhere else, with a clear price before work begins.
