Gas engineer in King's Park

Many of the houses in King's Park have been in the same family for decades, and a lot of them have had several boilers in that time. Choosing who works on the next one is worth a bit of thought. At Crombie Gas the answer is David Crombie, who has been in gas and heating for over 27 years and spent 20 of them at British Gas.

He left to set up on his own for one reason: to give each customer a proper, personal service. That is still how the business runs. We are family-run, based in Uddingston about 15 to 20 minutes away, and most of the people we work for found us through a friend, a relative or a neighbour.

When David comes out, you get a straight assessment and a price for parts and labour before he starts. He will always look at whether a repair can keep your boiler going sensibly before replacement is even mentioned, and if a new boiler is the right call he will explain the reasons in plain terms.

We are Gas Safe registered (540372) and work seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, covering boiler installation, yearly servicing, repairs and landlord gas safety certificates across King's Park and the rest of G44.

Areas of King's Park we cover

Our King's Park work takes us all around the park itself and the streets off King's Park Avenue, along Carmunnock Road and down past Aikenhead House. We also cover Croftfoot with its cottage flats, the houses up at Simshill, and the streets running towards Toryglen and Mount Florida on the Hampden side. It is a compact area to get around, so a visit here fits easily into David's day alongside nearby Cathcart and Castlemilk.

Local homes

Bungalows, cottage flats and 1930s semis

King's Park was laid out as a private suburb from around 1930, and much of it was built by Mactaggart and Mickel. The result is street after street of bungalows, semi-detached houses and cottage flats, with some larger detached villas mixed in. Neighbouring Croftfoot followed the same era, its roughcast cottage flats built to rent and later sold to their occupiers.

Homes of this age were not designed around modern central heating, so systems here have often been added to in stages. We regularly find loft tanks feeding an older open-vented system, radiators added after an extension or a loft conversion, and pipework that has collected sludge over many years. Swapping to a combi can free up the loft and give mains-pressure hot water, but only if the incoming supply supports it, which David checks before recommending anything.

Great service!

We struggled to find a gas engineer to fix our problems for a couple of months, everyone had issues with parts etc etc. Within hours David came out and fixed all the problems for 10% price quoted by two other engineers. We were very impressed but ultimately David just knows what hes doing. 10/10

Questions

Gas engineer in King's Park: your questions

Can you take out the old water tanks in my King's Park loft?

Usually, yes. When a combi or a sealed system replaces an older open-vented setup, the cold water and expansion tanks in the loft are no longer needed and can come out. David will check the water pressure and flow first, because that decides whether a combi will give you the hot water you expect.

We added a loft conversion and the new rooms never get warm. Can you help?

That is a common one in this part of the city. The cause may be the boiler output, how the radiators were sized and piped in, or sludge restricting flow. David will look at the whole system rather than guessing, explain what he finds and give you a price for the fix before any work starts.

Do you cover Croftfoot and Simshill as well?

Yes. Croftfoot, Simshill and the streets around Aikenhead are all part of our regular King's Park round. They share the G44 postcode and are a short drive from our base in Uddingston, so they are never a problem to fit in.

Is it worth servicing a boiler that is out of warranty?

We think so. A service is the chance to clean the burner and heat exchanger, check the flue and confirm the boiler is burning safely. On an older boiler that also tends to spot worn parts before they leave you without heat, which is usually cheaper than waiting for a breakdown.
