Boiler repairs, priced before we start
No heating or hot water? David finds the fault, tells you what it will cost to fix, and only then gets on with it.
After 27 years in gas and heating, 20 of them with British Gas, there are not many boiler faults David has not seen. Most problems are not as bad as they first look, and a lot of the time a repair is quicker and far cheaper than people expect.
We always explore repair before suggesting a replacement. If a part is needed, you get the price for the part and the labour before any work starts. If a boiler genuinely is not worth fixing, we will explain why, plainly, and let you decide.
What happens on a repair visit
- David diagnoses the fault properly, not by guesswork
- You get a clear explanation of what is wrong
- A price for parts and labour before any work starts
- Repair carried out and the boiler tested safely
- If a part needs ordering, a date agreed to come back and fit it
- Honest advice if a repair is not worth it
Common boiler problems we fix
-
No heating or hot water
Often down to a failed part such as a diverter valve, pump, fan or printed circuit board.
-
Low boiler pressure
Pressure that keeps dropping usually points to a leak, a faulty pressure relief valve or an expansion vessel problem.
-
Fault codes and lockouts
We work with all the major brands and can read what the code is telling us.
-
Frozen condensate pipe
A common cause of winter breakdowns in Scotland. We can clear it and look at stopping it happening again.
Repair pricing
Once David has found the fault, he prices the job, parts and labour, before he starts. You decide whether to go ahead.
If you have been quoted for a new boiler elsewhere and want a second opinion on whether a repair is possible, we are happy to take a look.
Great service!
We struggled to find a gas engineer to fix our problems for a couple of months, everyone had issues with parts etc etc. Within hours David came out and fixed all the problems for 10% price quoted by two other engineers. We were very impressed but ultimately David just knows what hes doing. 10/10
My boiler has stopped working. What should I check first?
Check the pressure gauge is between about 1 and 1.5 bar, that the gas and electricity are on, and that the thermostat is calling for heat. In cold weather, check whether the condensate pipe outside has frozen. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away.
Can you repair any make of boiler?
We repair all the major makes, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Vokera, Baxi and Glow-worm. For very old or obsolete models, we will tell you honestly if parts are no longer available.
Will you tell me the price before you start?
Always. David finds the fault first, then gives you the price for parts and labour. Nothing is done until you are happy to go ahead.
Is it worth repairing an old boiler?
Often, yes. If the boiler is otherwise reliable and parts are easy to get, a repair usually makes sense. If it keeps breaking down or parts are scarce, we will explain why a replacement might be better value and leave the choice with you.
