Gas engineer in Coatbridge

Most people only think about their boiler when it stops, and that usually happens on a cold night. We would rather meet it before then. A yearly service, a straight answer about how your boiler is doing and a reminder when the next visit is due: that is the steady, local service David Crombie set out to offer when he left British Gas after 20 years.

David has been working in gas and heating for over 27 years. Crombie Gas is his family-run business, based in Uddingston about 15 minutes from Coatbridge, and most of our work comes from customers who keep calling us back and the friends and neighbours they send our way. Coatbridge is a town where a good name travels quickly, and we intend to keep ours.

Across ML5 we install, service and repair gas boilers and carry out landlord gas safety checks. We are Gas Safe registered under number 540372 and open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm. Before any job starts, David prices the parts and labour so there are no surprises, and when something can be repaired properly, that is the advice you will get.

Areas of Coatbridge we cover

We cover every part of ML5. On the north side of town that means Townhead near Drumpellier Country Park, Gartsherrie, Blairhill and Coatdyke. In the south we work in Whifflet, Kirkwood, Kirkshaws, Sikeside, Shawhead, Carnbroe and Old Monkland, and in the middle of town around Dunbeth, Langloan and Summerlee. Glenboig and the edges of Airdrie are easy to reach from there too.

Local homes

Sandstone villas, council schemes and new homes

Coatbridge grew on iron and coal in the 1800s, and its grandest homes from that era are the sandstone villas and terraces of Drumpellier, Blairhill and Dunbeth. Thick stone walls, tall rooms and long pipe runs make them hungry for heat, and many still have older radiators. A replacement boiler there has to be sized for the real heat demand of the house, not just the number of bedrooms.

Much of the rest of the town is council housing built in the 1930s and 1950s over the old hamlets. Townhead is a good example: its first homes went up in the 1930s, most followed after the war, and many were bought by their tenants in the 1980s. Systems in houses like these have often been adapted piece by piece over the years. North Lanarkshire Council is now adding new homes in places such as Shawhead, bringing modern condensing boilers into the mix.

Great service!

We struggled to find a gas engineer to fix our problems for a couple of months, everyone had issues with parts etc etc. Within hours David came out and fixed all the problems for 10% price quoted by two other engineers. We were very impressed but ultimately David just knows what hes doing. 10/10

Questions

Gas engineer in Coatbridge: your questions

My stone villa is still cold even with a new boiler. Why?

A boiler can only deliver what the radiators and pipework can carry. Large sandstone rooms often need bigger radiators than the ones fitted decades ago, and older systems can be full of sludge. David will check the boiler settings, radiator sizes and the condition of the system water, then explain what will make the biggest difference.

How often should my boiler be serviced?

Once a year. That is what manufacturers ask for to keep warranties valid, and it is when small problems such as worn seals or a blocked condensate trap get spotted before they cause a breakdown. We will set up a yearly reminder for your Coatbridge address so you do not have to keep track of it yourself.

Do you cover Glenboig and Carnbroe too?

Yes. As well as the town centre we cover Glenboig, Carnbroe, Coatdyke and the other edges of ML5. From our base in Uddingston, most of Coatbridge is around 15 minutes away off-peak, and we work seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Can you move my boiler when I renovate my kitchen?

Often, yes. Moving a boiler means new gas and water pipework and a new flue position that meets current rules, so it is worth planning early. If your old boiler is near the end of its life, it can make sense to replace and relocate it at the same time. David will price both options so you can compare them.
