Gas engineer in Mount Vernon

Some of the larger family homes in the east end are in Mount Vernon, and bigger houses ask more of a heating system. More radiators, extra bathrooms and longer pipe runs all put a boiler to work, so getting the size and set-up right matters here more than in most places.

Crombie Gas is run by David Crombie from Uddingston, about ten minutes' drive away. David has worked in gas and heating for over 27 years, including 20 at British Gas, before setting up on his own so customers could deal with one person who knows their system. That is still how it works: you call the family business, and David is the engineer who comes out.

We are Gas Safe registered (540372) and a Worcester Bosch accredited installer covering Mount Vernon and the wider G32 area, and we also service and repair Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers. We look at repairing first, price every job before we start and keep the advice honest. A lot of our work comes from people who have used us before and mentioned us to their neighbours, which is the way we like it. We are available 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm.

Areas of Mount Vernon we cover

Our Mount Vernon customers are spread from the streets off London Road and around Mount Vernon Park out towards Sandyhills and Foxley in the west. South of the M74 we cover Carmyle, and to the north we work in Barlanark. Broomhouse, on the edge of Uddingston, is practically on our doorstep. The parks and open ground around Early Braes and Greenoakhill break the area up into pockets, but on the map it is all one easy run for us.

Local homes

Villas, semis and bigger family homes

Mount Vernon has long been one of the more comfortable suburbs on this side of the city, and the housing reflects that. There are sandstone detached houses from the late Victorian period, semis from around the turn of the century, and a good number of later detached and chalet-style homes on quieter private roads. Plenty have been extended over the years with a new kitchen, a sunroom or an extra bedroom.

That combination shapes the heating work we do here. Extensions often end up on the far end of the original pipework, so the new rooms are the last to warm up. Larger houses with two or more bathrooms can outgrow a combi, and a system boiler with a cylinder is sometimes the better fit. In the older sandstone houses, high ceilings and solid walls lose heat quickly, so we pay attention to radiator sizes and controls, not just the boiler itself.

Great service!

We struggled to find a gas engineer to fix our problems for a couple of months, everyone had issues with parts etc etc. Within hours David came out and fixed all the problems for 10% price quoted by two other engineers. We were very impressed but ultimately David just knows what hes doing. 10/10

Questions

Gas engineer in Mount Vernon: your questions

Will a combi boiler be big enough for a large house in Mount Vernon?

It depends on the house and how you live in it. A powerful combi suits plenty of homes, but if two showers often run at the same time, a combi can struggle to keep up. In that case a system boiler with a hot water cylinder may serve you better. David will look at your bathrooms, water pressure and daily routine before recommending anything.

Why is our extension always colder than the rest of the house?

Usually because the extension's radiators were added onto the end of the existing pipework, so they get the least flow. Sometimes the radiators are simply too small for the room. Balancing the system, clearing out sludge or fitting a larger radiator often helps far more than a new boiler would. David will check what is going on and explain the options and costs.

Do you cover Carmyle and Sandyhills too?

Yes. Carmyle, Sandyhills, Foxley and Barlanark are all covered, along with Broomhouse right next to Uddingston. From our base it is roughly ten minutes to most of these streets outside rush hour. Let us know your address when you get in touch and we will confirm that you are on our patch.

How do we know the price will not change once you start?

We price the job, parts and labour, before any work begins and talk you through exactly what is included. If David finds something unexpected once the boiler is opened up, he stops and discusses it with you before going any further. Nothing is added to the bill without your agreement.
