Gas engineer in Larkhall
Larkhall sits up on the high ground between the Clyde and the Avon Water, a short run down the M74 from our base in Uddingston. It is a town with a strong sense of community, and that suits the way Crombie Gas works: a family-run business where the engineer who services your boiler this year is the same one who comes back next year.
That engineer is David Crombie. He has been in gas and heating for more than 27 years, 20 of them with British Gas, before setting up on his own to give customers a more personal service. Most of what we do now is for repeat customers and for people who were given our number by someone they know.
In Larkhall we service, repair and replace boilers in homes across ML9, and we carry out landlord gas safety checks. David explains what he finds without jargon, prices the parts and labour before starting, and looks hard at whether a repair will do the job before a new boiler is mentioned. We are Gas Safe registered, number 540372, and we take calls seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.
Areas of Larkhall we cover
We cover all of Larkhall and the villages around it. In town that means Hareleeshill, Glengowan and Machanhill, the cul-de-sacs of Birkenshaw, Millheugh down by the Avon Water, and Merryton at the northern end of town near the station. Further out we also go to Ashgill, Netherburn and Dalserf. From Uddingston the drive is typically 15 to 20 minutes, a little more for the outlying villages.

Lockouts, low pressure, noisy pumps or no hot water: David will track down the cause, tell you what it is and give you a price before any parts go in. If the boiler can be fixed properly, that is what we recommend, even on older models.

More about landlord gas safety certificatesOlder terraces, council houses and private estates
Larkhall was traditionally a mining, weaving and textile town, and some of its older terraces and cottages date from those days. Around them are large areas of council-built housing from the middle of the last century, and then newer private estates and bungalows on the edges of town, many bought by people who commute towards Hamilton and Glasgow on the M74 or the railway.
That mix means a wide spread of heating systems. Plenty of older houses and bungalows still run a conventional boiler with a hot water cylinder and a loft tank, often on pipework that has never been properly cleaned. Sludge builds up, radiators go cold at the bottom and the boiler works harder than it should. Because the town sits on exposed high ground, the external condensate pipe on a modern boiler can freeze in a hard frost and stop it working. Correct pipe sizing and insulation at installation go a long way to avoiding that.
I found Crombie gas by chance when I needed my boiler replaced and it was a lucky find. David is the most reliable, efficient and skilled gas engineer I have experienced. I have recommend Crombie Gas to family and friends who have also been delighted. David operates with high integrity and only quotes for work that is required and gives competitively priced options.
Gas engineer in Larkhall: your questions
My boiler stopped during a frost. Could it be the condensate pipe?
Quite possibly. Modern condensing boilers drain water through a small plastic pipe, and where that runs outside it can freeze in very cold weather, which makes the boiler lock out. Pouring warm, not boiling, water over the frozen section often clears it. If it keeps happening, David can reroute or upgrade the pipe so it is less exposed.
Do you cover Ashgill and Netherburn?
Yes. Along with Larkhall itself we cover Ashgill, Netherburn, Dalserf and the surrounding area. From our base in Uddingston, Larkhall is usually a 15 to 20 minute drive off-peak, and the villages just beyond it are a few minutes more. We are open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.
Do I need my system cleaned when I get a new boiler?
Not automatically, but an old system full of sludge will shorten the life of a new boiler and can affect the manufacturer's warranty. David checks the condition of the water and radiators first. If cleaning is needed he will say so, explain the method he recommends and include it in the price before the job begins.
Can you service a boiler that someone else installed?
Of course. We service Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers no matter who fitted them. If you have just moved into a house in Larkhall and do not know the boiler's history, a service is a sensible first step: David will check it is safe, note its condition and let you know honestly how it is doing.
