Gas engineer in Easterhouse
Easterhouse has changed a great deal over the last few decades. Many of the tenement blocks built from the mid-1950s have gone, replaced by houses with their own front doors, gardens and modern heating, while many of the remaining flats have been refurbished. So the homes we visit here range from a recent new-build semi to a flat that has had three different heating systems in its lifetime.
Crombie Gas is a small family business based in Uddingston, about 15 minutes away. The engineer is David Crombie, who has more than 27 years in gas and heating behind him, 20 of them at British Gas. He went self-employed so people could deal with someone who knows them and their boiler, rather than whoever happens to be on shift that day.
Our approach is simple. We find out what is wrong, we tell you honestly whether it can be repaired, and we price the job before we touch it. We are Gas Safe registered (540372) and a Worcester Bosch accredited installer working across Easterhouse, and we also handle Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera boilers. Phones are answered 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.

What we do in Easterhouse
New boilers in Easterhouse
If you own your home in Easterhouse and the boiler is failing, we will give you an honest view on whether a repair or a new boiler makes more sense. When replacement is the right call, David sizes the boiler to the property, fits it neatly and prices everything up front. Worcester Bosch is our main brand.
More about boiler installationBoiler servicing in Easterhouse
A yearly service keeps a boiler running safely and keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid on newer models. We send a reminder when it is due. On the visit David checks the gas pressure, flue, seals and safety devices, and lets you know about anything wearing out before it turns into a breakdown.

Common calls in Easterhouse include a frozen condensate pipe after a cold snap, a boiler that will not hold pressure and radiators that stay cold at the top. We diagnose the fault properly and price the repair before starting, whether the boiler is a Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal or Vokera.

Private landlords with property in G34 and G33 need a gas safety check every year on each appliance. We carry out the inspection, issue the CP12 and can service the boiler at the same time. Scottish homes also need a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a boiler or other fuel-burning appliance.
More about landlord gas safety certificatesFrom 1950s tenements to new-build homes
Glasgow Corporation started building Easterhouse in the mid-1950s, and most of the original homes were two and three bedroom flats in tenement blocks off a common close. From the 1980s onwards, many of those blocks were refurbished or demolished, and the local housing associations have since built detached, semi-detached and terraced homes across the area.
For heating, that history matters. In refurbished flats the boiler is often tucked into a cupboard with the flue going out through an external wall, and condensate pipes on outside walls can freeze in a hard winter and shut the boiler down. Owners who bought their homes years ago may still have the first combi fitted after the old system came out, now well past its best. Newer houses usually have efficient boilers that mainly need regular servicing to keep the warranty in order and the system running well.
Brilliant service.
Our boiler broke down. Phoned David in the morning and boiler repaired in afternoon. Priced the job for parts and labour before starting. Good price. The next week we had no hot water. A different problem than before. Again David came out and told us what was wrong. Priced the part and labour and gave us a date for the job. Everything sorted!
Gas engineer in Easterhouse: your questions
I rent from a housing association. Can you fix my boiler?
If your home is let by a housing association or the council, your landlord is responsible for the boiler and the annual gas safety check, and they will normally send their own contractor. Report the fault to them first. We work for homeowners and private landlords in Easterhouse, so if you own your home or let one out, we can help.
What should I do if my condensate pipe freezes?
If the boiler locks out on a freezing morning and you hear gurgling, a frozen condensate pipe is a likely cause. Pouring warm, not boiling, water over the outside section of the pipe often thaws it, and you can then reset the boiler. If it keeps happening, call us. Insulating or rerouting the pipe usually stops it for good.
Do you cover Wellhouse and Queenslie on the other side of the motorway?
Yes. Wellhouse, Easthall and Queenslie are all part of our Easterhouse area, as are Provanhall, Blairtummock and the streets around Auchinlea Park. From Uddingston it is about a 15 minute drive outside rush hour. Tell us your address when you call and we will confirm.
Can you check a boiler I have been told needs replacing?
Yes, and we are happy to. If someone has quoted you for a new boiler and you are not sure it is needed, David can take a look, find the actual fault and tell you honestly whether a repair would do the job. If replacement really is the better option, he will explain why and give you a full price.
