Gas engineer in Hamilton

Hamilton is the biggest town we cover, and one of the most varied. In a single week David Crombie might be in a 1930s semi in Whitehill, a town centre flat and a newer family house on the southern edge of town. The boilers in those homes have very little in common, and neither do the right answers when one of them goes wrong.

That is where experience earns its keep. David has been in gas and heating for more than 27 years, two decades of it with British Gas, before setting up Crombie Gas as a family business in Uddingston, about fifteen minutes away. He prefers to give people honest advice over a sales pitch, and that is a big part of why so much of our work comes from repeat customers and word of mouth.

We install and replace boilers, carry out yearly servicing, repair breakdowns and handle landlord gas safety certificates throughout ML3. As a Worcester Bosch accredited installer covering Hamilton, we can offer extended manufacturer guarantees on eligible Worcester boilers, and we also work on Vaillant, Ideal and Vokera.

You will know what the work costs, parts and labour included, before David lifts a tool. And when a fault can be fixed at a fair price, fixing it is what we recommend.

Areas of Hamilton we cover

We cover Hamilton from end to end. In the north and west that means Whitehill, Burnbank, Udston and Hillhouse, close to the Blantyre boundary. Nearer the middle there is the town centre and the streets around Hamilton West and Hamilton Central stations. Further south we regularly work in Fairhill, Low Waters, Eddlewood, Silvertonhill, the Earnock estate and Meikle Earnock. Every part of ML3 is within easy reach of our base in Uddingston.

Interwar semis, post-war estates and town centre flats

Hamilton's housing spans most of the last century. Whitehill's original homes date largely from the 1920s and 1930s, while much of Fairhill was built by the council in the 1950s and 1960s. Houses of that age often have older radiators, pipework that has been extended more than once and, in some cases, systems that heat unevenly because they have never been properly balanced or cleaned.

The Earnock estate followed in the 1960s, and plenty of its heating systems have been changed piece by piece since. In the town centre, flats bring their own limits on where a flue can go and how much space there is for the boiler. Across Hamilton, the choice between a combi and a system boiler with a cylinder comes down to the size of the household and the number of bathrooms, and we will help you weigh it up.

I found Crombie gas by chance when I needed my boiler replaced and it was a lucky find. David is the most reliable, efficient and skilled gas engineer I have experienced. I have recommend Crombie Gas to family and friends who have also been delighted. David operates with high integrity and only quotes for work that is required and gives competitively priced options.

Questions

Gas engineer in Hamilton: your questions

My older house in Hamilton is cold upstairs even with the heating on. Is it the boiler?

Not always. In older Hamilton homes, uneven heat is often down to sludge in the radiators, a system that has never been balanced, or a pump that is struggling. David checks the whole system before blaming the boiler. A clean and balance can make a real difference, and it costs far less than a replacement.

Is it worth repairing a boiler that is 15 years old?

Sometimes it is. If the fault is a single, available part and the boiler is otherwise in good order, a repair can make sense. If parts are scarce or the heat exchanger is failing, replacement may be better value. David will explain the costs of both honestly and let you decide.

How often does a landlord need a gas safety certificate?

Every year. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, landlords must have all gas appliances and flues checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer and give tenants a copy of the record. We carry out the checks across Hamilton and send you a reminder before each one falls due.

How far is Hamilton from your base?

We are based in Uddingston, roughly fifteen minutes from Hamilton town centre in normal traffic. We are open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm, and cover all of ML3, from Burnbank and Whitehill to Eddlewood and Meikle Earnock.
